Name: Nicole Harris
Pursuit: Alpine Skiing and Basketball
Nicole is 19 years old and has an intellectual disability and mild cerebral palsy. Her aim is to become the No. 1 Alpine Skiier with an intellectual disability in the world as well as compete in the Australian Pearls Womens Basketball team. Her dream is to represent Australia at both the Winter and Summer Paralympic Games however currently the Australian Paralympic Program does not provide funding for Nicole's disability classification and the Australian Pearl also receive minimal funding with individual players required to contribute to the costs of training camps and competitions. The Aim for the Stars grant will enable her to further her training, competing at the highest level in both sports in preparation for their inclusion in future Paralympic Games.
When did you start?
I started snow skiing when I was 5 years old and I started playing basketball when I was 12.
Career highlight or biggest achievement?
Winning the Giant Slalom at the INAS Alpine Skiing World Championships and winning Gold medals in basketball at the INAS Global Games and the Special Olympic Summer Games - all in 2011.
What is your dream?
To represent Australia at both the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games.
