Name: Maddison Walton
Pursuit: Athletics - Triple Jump
When did you start?
I’ve always loved sports and running. I started little athletics at the age of 10, but I only started training and became a higher level and competitive athlete at the start of 2011.
Career highlight or biggest achievement?
Coming 4th at the 2012 Australian Junior Championships in Triple Jump with a massive PB!
What is your dream?
My biggest dream is to participate in the 2020 Olympic Games and compete for my country in Triple Jump. I would also love to participate in the Long Jump, 100m and 200m events in the Olympic Games too!
Who or what have inspired you?
There are a few people that I look up to in my life: My coach - he has supported me through the thick and thin and has always believed in me. He has never doubted my talent even in the times I have doubted myself. Ant, you are truely an inspiration to me!! Sally Pearson - ever since I started Little Athletics, I had always heard about Sally when she was younger and how she contributed to the same club as me. So for the past five years, I have looked at her as a role model because she has had some down times but has always gotten back on her feet and kept head strong towards her goals. I hope I can be as successful as Sally on the track in the future :) Layne Beachley - the 7 time world surfing champion has especially been an inspiration and a role model through her courage and strength to persevere towards her goals. She has helped me so much to push me through the rough times because I always think of Layne to Dare to Dream, Pursue my Passion and Aspire to Achieve. Thank you Layne!!!
Who's your hero?
My Mum by far! She has supported me everywhere I go, everything I choose to do and everything I have done. She doesnt have a job because she is constantly driving me to the track for training, gets up early to take me to competitions and meets, and her holidays are flying with me interstate for national championships. Many kids take their mum for granted, but I have no idea what I'd be able to do without my mum! Mum is an inspiration to me and is all I could ever hope to be when I'm older. I love you Mum xxxx
Any other special talents?
Volleyball - I play volleyball for my school and love it because it's fun to be a member of a team sport and help each other out. I enjoy playing and it fills me with joy when I'm playing, no matter if my team wins or not! I believe I'm also very talented at causing food to disappear off plates ;)
I love pop-rock mostly - I have heaps of favourite artists! I love Pink, The Script, Simple Plan, Maroon 5, David Guetta, Ed Sheeran, Pitbull and Matchbox Twenty just to name a few :)
I have heaps but the best of them all so far is Pitch Perfect :D
My favourite series are The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. Best. Books. Ever.
Favourite TV Show?
Oooooh I love comedy so it’s got to be The Big Bang Theory!!! Everyone loves Sheldon ;)
RASPBERRIES FOR THE WIN!!!!!!
How the grant will help you/how will you use the money?
The grant will assist in covering flight fees, accommodation, and competition fees, coaching fees, uniforms, entry fees and much more. I will use the money solely for athletics, taking a huge weight off my shoulders. The grant will also take a fair amount of stress away from my mother, as she always tries her best to fully pay the interstate travels.
