When did you start?
Career highlight or biggest achievement?
When I was in Year 10 at school I started a campaign, Change a Million Light Bulbs, to convert incandescent lights over to fluorescent ones. Over the course of 18 months I was able to work with people across Australia, and the world, in order to achieve this goal. The laws in Australia also changed, where you are no longer able to buy incandescent lights.
What is your dream?
My dream is to have a world that is sustainable - both for the people and the environment. There is currently a lot of inequity with the way we use resources and treat other human beings. I don't think that this is the way things have to be and would like to work on changing that.
Who or what have inspired you?
Who's your hero?
Wangari Maathai is one of my heros for the work that she has done to help the environment and women around the world from Africa.
Any other special talents?
I play French Horn.
A little bit of everything but, mainly what some people call
I rarely get the time to actually go to the cinema anymore, my child hood favourites would easily be a toss up between the Lion King or Toy Story (for animated films) and any of the Ronald Dahl adaptations. Lately I've been watching more documentaries.
Favourite TV Show?
I'm the sort of person who eats everything, and maybe too much of it. Mainly vegetarian and I love Middle Eastern and Mexican food.
How the grant will help you/how will you use the money?
The grant will help me and my organisation Speak Your Mind (www.symnews.org) provide in-depth on the ground coverage of Rio+20 in Brazil later this year. This event is the pinnacle event in UN talks on sustainable development.
Last words: Quote or Motto you live by?
Believe in the impossible; that way nothing can't not be achieved.
