Name: Karlie Swanson
Pursuit: Cross Country, Middle Distance Running.
I am a 17 year old middle distant runner from Urunga, a small country town on the Mid North Coast of NSW. My preferred discipline is Cross Country but also enjoy Road Races and Middle Distant Track. My dream is to represent Australia at the highest level of my chosen sport and hopefully one day the Olympics.
I have already represented Australia in 2014 at the World Schools Cross Country Championships and loved every minute of being part of the team and actually winning the race. This has just made me more determined to make more teams and compete at the highest level possible and believe in my abilities to do so.
I have been competing at a competitive level from the age of 9 and every year just get more motivated to do well and achieve my next goal. The Aim For the Stars Grant will help a great deal with enabling me to compete and train around Australia and hopefully internationally .
When did you start?
After running my first Cross Country at school at the age of 8 I realised how much I loved Cross Country running. I made my first state team when I was 9 to compete at national level.
Career highlight or biggest achievement?
My career highlight so far would have to be being selected in the Australian Team to compete at The World ISF Cross Country Championships in March 2014. My biggest achievement to date would have to be winning my race at this Championship and becoming the 2014 World School Cross Country Champion.
What is your dream?
Ultimately my dream is to compete in the Olympics one day and represent Australia at world class events.
Who or what have inspired you?
I love running and couldn't imagine my life without it. I grew up with hearing about how the son of my primary school teacher was running at an international level and studying at university in America while running and training there. He grew up in the same small town as me and showed me with commitment and a lot of hard work dreams can come true.
Who's your hero?

How the grant will help you/how will you use the money?
The Grant will help cover some of the numerous costs associated with living in the country and having to constantly travel for competitions , training and even see my coach who lives 5 hours away from me. It will allow me to compete in more high quality races and hopefully more international races as well.
