Name: Laura Coles
Pursuit: Clay Target Shooting
Laura is a clay target shooter in the Olympic discipline ISSF Skeet. Laura has been shooting Olympic Skeet for only 3 years and has made excellent progress finishing in number 1 position in the WA open ISSF skeet team, which includes the men and is currently ranked 2 in the national women’s competition. Despite her ranking she can’t compete at a national level in an open team (this is an ISSF rule that only males are allowed can compete) and can’t shoot in a ladies team because there are insufficient numbers to make a team in WA. Unfortunately all the Olympic qualifying competitions are held in the eastern states so this grant will held ease the burden in relation to travel and competition entry fees. Laura hopes to make the Australian shooting team in the next 12 to 18 months to allow her to gain international competition experience before the 2012 Olympic Games. Laura hopes to be the best female ISSF skeet shooter in the world.
