My name is Chelsea Stutchbury. I am 17 years old from Bargara Beach in Queensland. I have a passion for singing and aspire to become a confident professional singer and to develop my voice to it’s greatest potential. My ‘aim for the stars’ would be to sing on the many great stages of the world. I auditioned and was accepted by the Queensland Conservatorium of Music for Jazz Voice study this year. Last year I was diagnosed with Lymphoma. This made me realize how precious life is and that I wanted to spend it doing what I love, which is singing.
When did you start?
My family has always had a love for music. My Grandmother always played the piano for me when I was little. My Grandparents always had Jazz and Classical music playing which is why I like Jazz and Classical music so much. I commenced singing lessons in primary school.
Career highlight or biggest achievement?
To defeat Lymphoma has been my biggest achievement. My career highlight was writing my own song. I hope to record it. Meeting Katy Perry was another highlight.
What is your dream?
I dream to sing on the great stages of the world. It would be a dream come true to sing at grand venues such as the Palais Garnier in Paris. To write my own music and be good enough to perform my own songs. I would like to inspire others with my story.
Who or what have inspired you?
I love old Jazz music. Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong are among my favourites. Modern musical inspirations are Lana del Ray, Lorde, Banks, Florence and the Machine, and Adele. I love the simplicity of their performances and admire how their voices are so strong and beautiful that they don't need much musical support. Their voices are a fine instrument in themselves.
Who's your hero?
My Grandad. He has always been there for me and supported all I did. He was so tough and strong fighting Myeloma cancer last year. He didn't make it, so when I was diagnosed a few months later I felt like I was finishing the treatment for both of us. Grandad always played Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong which is why I love Jazz so much. I am so grateful and it is special Grandad got to share that with me. He and Grandma took me to see Maria de Buenos Aires, a tango Operita, which was a lovely musical experience.
Any other special talents?

How the grant will help you/how will you use the money?
It will enable me to purchase my own microphone and musical equipment to assist my dreams. It will also assist with my University fees to further my singing aspirations.
