Name: Cassandra Hoare
My dream is to get to the Olympics for trampolining. No female athlete yet has qualified for the Olympics and I would like to be that person. I have been training very hard for the past 7 years, and this has been my dream since I was eight. I train 6 days a week, for two or two and a half hours a day, so I can better myself, improve my skills, strength, mental attitude and abilities, in order to become the best athlete I can be. Last year I was selected to attend the World Age Championships in Bulgaria, which was my very first international event overseas and I obtained a world ranking. Training is a two hour round trip so it is a significant drain on my family. Time along with the expense of training, coaching and competition is tough. The Aim for the Stars grant will go a long way to supporting me and assisting my family.
When did you start?
I started trampolining when I was 5 years old in 2005, after my mum being told by my kindergym instructor to get me into this sport as I would never get off of the trampoline.
Career highlight or biggest achievement?
Late last year I was selected to attend the World Age Championships, and attended the competition in Bulgaria, which was my very first international event overseas. I came 27th out of about 70 in my age group and 12th with my synchronised partner, so was very happy that I managed to complete all my routines and obtain a world ranking, and get a taste of what I need to expect in the future.
What is your dream?
My dream is to one day represent Australia at the Olympic Games.
Who or what have inspired you?
My parents are my biggest inspiration as they encourage me with the sport I love. I also have a former coach who is fantastic and has guided my direction pathway in the sport, which enabled me to do high performance, but I really love watching everyone who does the sport, as they give me ideas, improve my dedication and inspire me to go for my goals.
Who's your hero?
I have a couple of heroes, two have represented Australia in the Olympic Games, which are Blake Gaudry and Ben Wilden, but I also look up Alex Cockayne who is a former training buddy at my old club, as he gives me a lot of inspiration also.
Any other special talents?
Not sure if they are special talents, but have represented my district in Swimming and Athletics at SAPSASA events, and I have a great passion for Volleyball also.
I enjoy a variety of music from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, as well as rap music, even though many think this is strange because I am young.
