Name: Alexandra Manly
My name is Alex Manly, I am 18 years old and I live in Nairne in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia. I come from a family of six who are all very supportive of my aim to reach the pinnacle of my sport; Cycling. I started out as a basketballer and middle distance runner but have concentrated on cycling since I was fourteen. I ride for Orica-AIS an Australia women’s professional team and aim to reach the Rio Olympic Games. I’m a small town girl with roots across Australia, having lived in Kalgoorlie WA, Broken Hill NSW and Portland Vic.
When did you start?
I started riding in 2010 when I was selected by the South Australian Institute of Sport into the Talent Identification Program.
Career highlight or biggest achievement?
My career highlights would include being the Junior World Individual and Teams Pursuit champion and winning a GOLD medal representing Australia at the recent Track World Cup in Cali, Columbia.
What is your dream?
My dream is to represent Australia in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Who or what have inspired you?
Throughout my career, many people have helped guide me, however my own brother inspires me every day with his determination and will-power. He also is also a person that helps keep my head screwed on. Before I started cycling Cathy Freemans GOLD medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics motivated me to wear the Green & Gold.

How the grant will help you/how will you use the money?
As many people would be aware, to pursue any dream there are many financial barriers which involve, travel, equipment and other costs associated with being on the ‘road’ for a huge chunk of the year. This money will help relieve the financial burden surrounded with cycling and also help me fully focus on my goals.
